When I started my low-carb / keto journey there were two things that I was skeptical about giving up. The first was bread and the second was dessert. On some special occasions, we would just have dessert as dinner. I was surprised at how many keto-approved recipes I found for desserts. I’ve tried many, and some were good, others I saw potential in tweaking some ingredients to make them better and some were just gross. I think I perfected the Keto Donut Holes. These donut holes are not only low-carb (1 net carb per hole) but they are soft, chewy, and sweet.
The original recipe was good, but I thought it was a little too salty and the consistency didn’t hold the donut shape through the baking process. I played around with the ingredients and topping and found the perfect combination that works. This recipe for Keto Donut Holes won’t disappoint the pickiest of eaters – regardless if you follow a ketogenic diet or not. My 4 yo loves these and calls them cinnamon holes.
Keto Donut Hole Macros
Each batch makes 15 donut holes. Each donut has 85 calories, 7g fat, 1g net carb, 3g protein
Keto Donut Hole Ingredients
- 3/4 cup almond flour
- 1/4 coconut flour
- 1/4 cup whey protein powder (unflavoured, vanilla, or chocolate)
- 11/4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp xanthan gum
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 tbsp full-fat sour cream (can substitute for full-fat Greek yogurt)
- 2 tbsp hot water
- Preheat oven to 325oF.
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl. If the batter is dry and crumbly, add a few more drops of hot water until the batter is consistently moist throughout but not too wet. If the batter is too wet the donut holes will not keep their shape during the baking cycle.
- Wet hands and roll 15 balls (each about 1 inch round). Place on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
- Bake for 6 minutes. Remove from oven and cool before adding a coating.
- These donut holes are delicious on their own, but if you want to dress them up, I’ve included 3-ways to coat them below.

Cinnamon Sugar Glaze
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/3 cup Splenda (or zero calorie sweetener of choice)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Mix all ingredients in a bowl until sugar and cinnamon are full dissolved. Roll each cooled donut hole into the glaze and set back on the parchment paper to set.
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/3 cup Splenda (or zero calorie sweetener of choice)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Roll a donut hole in the melted butter until fully covered.
- Roll the buttered donut hole in the sugar cinnamon coating.
- Set back on the parchment paper to set.
Powdered Sugar Coating
- Place sweetener in a small bowl.
- Roll donut hole around in sweetener until fully covered.
