In this post I share my family’s experience at Danville Park and why in our opinion, it’s the best place to watch planes in Toronto (YYZ).

Where is the best place to watch planes near Toronto (YYZ) Pearson airport?
Danville Park is the best place to get up close with the planes departing from Pearson airport. The park is a 26 hectare linear outdoor space located in Mississauga and boasts a dedicated plane viewing platform complete with a giant metal decorative plane structure and pivoting binoculars. The hill is 25 meters above the surrounding area with clear views of Pearson’s runways.
From this location you will mostly see planes leaving the airport. However, on the rare occasion when the wind blows the other way, you will be lucky to see planes coming into the airport. This was the case the first time we visited the park.

What makes Danville Park stand out?
Danville Park is like no other park I’ve visited. Besides having the best place to watch planes in Toronto (YYZ) year-round, it also is home to several seasonal activities, like a cricket field, pedestrian paths suited for all abilities, a picnic area and a toboggan hill.
Park History
Danville Park opened in 2018. The airplane viewing platform was a joint project between the City of Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA).
“The design incorporates a tribute to the Avro Arrow and includes runway markings and interpretive signage using architectural stone from the former A.V. Roe headquarters.”

My Family’s Experience
In December 2020 we attended the drive-through Christmas Polar light exhibit located at Pearson airport. After the experience we wanted to go somewhere to watch the planes up close. We stumbled across Danville Park in the most unlikely spot. The park is nestled between the Mississauga Waste Management transfer site and Highway 410.

We love watching the planes from the viewing pad. The pad faces the runway and the binoculars are a nice touch. We tried out the smallest toboggan hill located beside the cricket field and it didn’t disappoint. I packed a lunch so we could have a picnic in the snow (one of many of my daughters favourite things to do). I will definitely be adding this park to our summer bucket list so we can come back and checkout the walking paths.
